Lily of the Valley: return of happiness

Lily of the Valley has numerous meanings, but in Victorian times it came to mean a return of happiness. Legend tells of a lily of the valley who loved a singing nightingale perched on a tree above. One day the nightingale was gone and out of sadness, the lily of the valley refused to bloom. When the bird returned in May, the flower was filled with happiness and finally bloomed again.

This print is part of the Language of Flowers Series:
The idea of flowers with meanings started in the Victorian era when proper etiquette dictated it was uncouth to blatantly express your true emotions. I was instantly intrigued and enamored with the idea of flowers holding secret meanings. It felt magical and special. Most visual representations lean Victorian in aesthetic, but I was excited to bring this concept to life in a modern yet nostalgic way.
