Orange Blossom: eternal love

In 1840 Queen Victoria married Prince Albert wearing a headdress of orange blossoms. Countless brides followed suit wearing the blossoms in their hair or carrying them in their bouquets. The meaning of eternal love traces to ancient Greek mythology, which holds that Hera was crowned with orange blossoms when she wedded Zeus.

This print is part of the Language of Flowers Series:
The idea of flowers with meanings started in the Victorian era when proper etiquette dictated it was uncouth to blatantly express your true emotions. I was instantly intrigued and enamored with the idea of flowers holding secret meanings. It felt magical and special. Most visual representations lean Victorian in aesthetic, but I was excited to bring this concept to life in a modern yet nostalgic way.
